Greetings from Flores. For the time being we are safe. Everything is under control. At the end of March this year I left our seminary. I traveled to Ruteng to the contemplative monastary of SSpS AP. There I spent two weeks and had time for a private retreat before Easter. On the way I visited the SVD Polish missionary - Stefan Wrosz SVD in Kisol, Manggarai. Then I went to Roe, where the SVD Father Tadeusz Gruca lives. Because of the coronavirus, the roads between the provinces are closed, so I didn't return to the Divine Word Mission seminary in Ledalero.
I spent Easter with Father Tadeusz in the central part of the island. So far, only a dozen cases of Covid-19 have been reported on Flores. They are workers from other parts of Indonesia who have just returned to their families. All of them had their quarantine.
On the island of Flores there are only 2 hospitals which can treat people who got the Corona virus. One is located in the city of Maumere and the other in Labuan Bajo. The gatherings in churches or mission stations for over a month are forbidden. Everyone must keep a safe distance. The situation is constantly developing.
However, in a country as large as Indonesia, there are only over 14,000 cases. This fills us up with optimism for the future. We don't know what will happen, but we trust God and pray for a quick end of the coronavirus pandemic.
