I would like to thank all of you who support me in the mission on Flores. For all the prayers and gifts which you offer for the success of the SVD mission in Indonesia.
Each day can be a challenge, especially in a new country, with new culture and people. However, the awareness that you are not alone, because there are people who pray for you, gives you strength to work and continue your mission.
From November 2018 I live in Indonesia, and more precisely in Ledalero on Flores. I'm learning the Indonesian language ("Bahasa Indonesia") in the Divine Word Seminary which is the official language of the country. Although some say it is a simple one, you need patience, perseverance and spend many hours with books to master it.
A foreign language is only a part of the new culture. I also learn how to understand the way of life, religiosity and Indonesian cuisine. "Pelan, pelan tapi pasti" - as the proverb of this country says ("Slowly, slowly but surely").
I thank all my friends and benefactors who are committed to help and support me all the time. There is still a lot of poverty among the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. People here mainly work in their farms, fields and gardens. Only some can afford to pay for the education in private schools and further studies. For that reason we still need prayer and support.
May God bless everyone who is praying for the missionary service undertaken by the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit (SSpS / SSpSAP). I warmly greet you from Indonesia and invite to Flores.
Prayers of SVD
May the darkness of sin
and the night of unbelief vanish before the light of the Word
and the Spirit of grace
and may the Heart of Jesus live
in the hearts of all people.
(Saint Arnold Janssen)
