On 8 August 2019 we visited the high school in Gulewa. I went there with sister Mary CM. At school we met with the principal and the teachers. Then we had a meeting with third grade students. Sister with girls and I with boys.
There was time for sharing and testimony of religious life. I told them about the SVD congregation and vocation as a foreign missionary. After that I also asked about their plans for future. Young men said that they’d rather to become soldiers, policemen, farmers or priests. Some of them don't want to continue studying but after finishing school they are going to work. We had time to pray together in English, Indonesian and Polish. We sang a few songs and took a picture together.
This school is located near the main road but there is quiet and it has a beautiful surrending. The students are polite but still young and a little shy. But we enjoyed together and talked a lot. The teachers are very friendly too. After teaching we sat in the headmaster's office, drinking tea with cookies and talking for a long time. At 1:00 p.m. we returned by bus to Mangulewa.
Prayers of SVD
May the darkness of sin
and the night of unbelief vanish before the light of the Word
and the Spirit of grace
and may the Heart of Jesus live
in the hearts of all people.
