On Saturday, February 8, 2020, on the commemoration of blessed Josepha Bhakita, we took part in a program dedicated to the victims of human trafficking. We were invited by the SSpS sisters who had been running a center for the victims for over 20 years in Maumere, Flores, Indonesia. Currently there are over twenty women and children in St. Monica's House.
During speeches, we learned that the number of cases of sexual violence against women and children was constantly increasing. According to the data of the center (TRUK-F Maumere), in the years 2000–2013 there were 1920 cases of various types of violence. Sister Eustochia Monika Nata SSpS who is the coordinator of TRUK-F tries to help the victims of physical, psychological and sexual violence.
We prayed together for the victims of human trafficking, together with the seminarians of Ledalero and the high school students from Maumere. We listened to the testimonies of the victims of human trafficking, and then we prayed together. Eventually, the sisters invited all gueasts for a meal and talk. Together with the SVD fathers SVD, we returned to the seminary in Ledalero in the late evening.
Prayers of SVD
May the darkness of sin
and the night of unbelief vanish before the light of the Word
and the Spirit of grace
and may the Heart of Jesus live
in the hearts of all people.
(Saint Arnold Janssen)
